Fields: Manage Resources
The Managing Resources page lets you add asset sources to a digital asset.
Assets > Add Asset > Manage Resources
Assets > Edit > Manage Resources
Assets > Manage Resources
Parent
Displays the parent directory node of the asset whose sources you are modifying.
Asset
Displays the name of the asset whose sources you are modifying.
Asset Source
The Asset Source fields indicates the source of the data that is used to create the asset.
Upload File
Specifies the file that is to be attached to the digital asset. The upload file can be a file of any type. For example, if the digital asset is for a book, the upload file may be the PDF file for the book’s electronic form. If the digital asset is for a painting, the upload file may be a GIF image of that painting.
Use the Browse button to navigate to and select the file you want.
Note: The file search button and the Internet Media Type Override field display only when the Upload File option is selected. This option cannot be selected if the URL option is selected.
Important: Uploading large files can overload the memory buffer and result in instability in the system. Upload limits depend on upload speed and file size. The current upload size limit is around 70 MB per file and times out after 5 minutes. If an upload takes more than 5 minutes, you should check server logs for errors.
The Import Assets bulk loader has a time out of 60 minutes. You may be able to upload a large file using this method. For more information, see Importing multiple assets.
URL
Specifies the name of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the asset. When you create an asset, you may specify the URL in the Asset’s URL field below the URL selection.
Note: The Asset’s URL field displays only when the URL option is selected. This option cannot be selected if the Upload File option is selected.
Internet Media Type Override
Allows you to override the asset’s media type default setting for the Internet media type. When an asset is added to the hierarchy, the file extension of the asset is checked to see if it corresponds to a defined media type. If it is, the Internet media type setting specified in the defined media type would be used for the asset. However, since a particular file extension could be used for more than one Internet media type, the Internet Media Type Override field can be used to specify an Internet media type to be used instead of the default Internet media type when adding the asset to the hierarchy.
For example, files with the .mp4 file extension can be video files or audio files. A library’s collection of digital media assets has mostly MP4 video files, so the library administrator sets the default Internet media type for MP4 files to “video/mp4.” If a user wants to add a digital asset that is an MP4 audio file, the user can type the following into the Internet Media Override field to specify that the asset has an MP4 audio media type.
audio/mp4
Note: This field displays only when the Upload File option is selected.
Resources Summary
This table gives a summary of the resources attached and provides options for managing them.
File Name
Displays the name of an uploaded resource.
Override Internet Media Type
Displays the media type of a file if the media type differs from the library default for that type of file. This field is specified when uploading a file to the asset.
File Information
Lets you view the details of the file. Selecting this link displays a dialog that contains the file name, the file path, and the file size.
Note: This option is only available if the resource is a file. It is not available for external URLs.
Management Options
Provides the following options to manage asset resources:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Change Order |
Lets you arrange the order of the asset resources. The order of resources in the Manage Resources list is the order that appears on the asset detail display in Searching. Use the up () and down () arrows to move a resource to the desired location. Important: The permalinks to the asset resources are based on the order of resources in the asset. In other words, the permalink is specifically linked to that resource's location in the resource list. This means that reordering the files changes which permalink points to which resource. For example, if File A was the first resource in an asset but you change the order so that File B is the first resource, then the permalink that used to point to File A now points to File B. |
Delete
|
Lets you delete an existing asset resource. For more information, see Deleting an asset resource. Important: This will permanently delete the digital file from the storage directory. |
